Your Brita Filter

Clean your Brita filter for healthier water.

I know this is gross but I’ve had my Brita Filter for almost two years now and I have never given it a deep clean until recently. I checked out the little nozzle and it had black mold in it! Ew! It’s so important to clean anything that continuously has any type of moisture in it. I cleaned the nozzle using a straw brush and dawn dish soap. I then filled it about 1/4 of the way with water and dropped a cap full of white vinegar in. Set it in the sink and let the water/vinegar mixture run through the nozzle until empty. So easy! I’m going to start doing this once every three months.

Your Coffee Maker

Clean your coffee maker

How many of us use our Coffee Maker every day? When was the last time you gave it a good cleaning? I honestly don’t know why I waited so long to clean my coffee maker when it was so easy. Fill your pot with water and pour in like you would if you were making coffee. Then put in a cap full of vinegar. Then either run it like you would if you were making a cup of coffee unless yours has a cleaning button then hit that. I then run a pot of plain water through. It makes your coffee taste so much better! Do this once every six months.

Your Humidifier

Clean your humidifier

Like I said before anything with moisture should be cleaned frequently. Humidifiers are super important. You don’t want to be breathing in nasty fungus. I fill my humidifier tank with water and put in (you guessed it) a cap of white vinegar. I usually do this before I leave to go somewhere because the vinegar smell is overwhelming. Then when I get back I give the inside a good scrub. I do this about once a month.

Your Washer

Clean your washing machine

This one I don’t have experience with because I don’t have a washer (yet), but I have seen people put a quart of bleach and run it on hot. Once it is full of water pop the lid up and let it sit for a half-hour. Then run it as you would normally. There are also pods made for cleaning your washer if you’re looking for a quick fix. If you have a top-loading washer, don’t forget about your agitator. I would grab a brush and scrub it during the half-hour the bleachy water is sitting. I would say how often you do this really depends on how often you do laundry and how hard the water is where you live.

Deep Cleaning Your Lint Trap

When was the last time you cleaned your dryer's lint trap

This is another one that I don’t personally do at home, but I have had to do it with dryers at various jobs. Take the screen out like you normally would and soak it in soapy water for 30 minutes and have it air dry on a towel. Use a dryer cleaner brush to clean the vent. Then use a duct brush clean the duct. Vacuum remaining or loose lint. You can find a dryer cleaning set on amazon.
